Week 8 Blog #2

I still am not to sure as to the importance of blogging in my future workplace or whether I will be using it or even if it is confidential enough to use, but I do have a different attitude towards it than when I started using it. I am not so negative towards it. I don't however find much difference in using this type of thing and Facebook. Except for the fact that that Facebook is more widely used and known. People are also less likely to use or read blogs than Twitter and I don't really see the point of blogging something important and wasting my time doing so if no one is going to read it.

Week 8 Blog #1

Well here is blog #1 for this week I am choosing to reflect in both of my posts this week one is going to be a reflection of the class and everything I have learned from all of my classmates and the second will be from the blogging experience.

I have learned a lot from this class I do hope that some of you keep your blogs even thought we did not like them at first I would like to keep in contact with you. We have gotten to know each other through the group projects even though they were challenging at times, we had fun and learned a lot about workplace etiquette from Mrs. Dalley. I have learned that in groups we can all add a little bit of ourselves and make a wonderful product. When you just have one person creating something you have just one person's ideas, but when you put multiple heads together you get multiple ideas flowing and voila a masterpiece happens.

Then there was the annoying, yet informative sexual harassment presentations. They were fun and our group rocked it out!!! Yeah buddy! We looked so professional all five of us dressed to impressed the day of presentation, and we nailed our skit and we had all our facts down, so we had everything on point that day. Not to say the rest of the group didn't because you all did, but I was so proud of us. The rest of the groups looked good in your professional dress I do have to agree with Mrs, Dalley on that one with the fact that everyone looks so good on presentation day with the men in their ties and looking all spiffy, and the women looking so beautiful, and all the presentations were on point.

Week 7 Blog

The Scholarly Article I found was called: A speculative Perspective on the Transfer of Behavioral Science Findings to the Workplace: "The Times are A-Changin"  by Gary P. Latham, 2007 Academy of Management Journal Vol. 5o, No. 5, 1027-1032

and the blog I found was: Work-focused psychotherapy can help employees return to work sooner Source: American Psychological Association, February 27, 2012

Summary of the Article is:

Times are changing in the workplace and there are potential solutions to certain problems that they offered which are as follows.
Lead with our strength
Develop a Theory of Diffusion
Include Operational Validity as a Criterion for Evaluating Human Resource Management Theory
Educate Managers and MBA Students by Involving Them in Our Research
Become Bilingual
Enter the World of Practitioners
Influence Practitioner Journals
Reward One's Influence on Practice
Conduct Research with Practitioners
Encourage Our Proteges to Seek Employment in the Private and Public Sectors

Summary of the blog is:

This blog talks about how cognitive behavior therapy could reduce the number of days employees miss due to mental disorders. The people who participated in the therapy group versus the people who did not increased the number of days they were in work rather than the days they were off due to their mental illness.

I believe the blog was more effective than the article was because it was simply more readable than the article was. The article was harder to understand than the blog so I think that the article was more focused on the more educated reader and the blog was focused on whoever came across it.
