Week 8 Blog #2
I still am not to sure as to the importance of blogging in my future workplace or whether I will be using it or even if it is confidential enough to use, but I do have a different attitude towards it than when I started using it. I am not so negative towards it. I don't however find much difference in using this type of thing and Facebook. Except for the fact that that Facebook is more widely used and known. People are also less likely to use or read blogs than Twitter and I don't really see the point of blogging something important and wasting my time doing so if no one is going to read it.
Week 8 Blog #1
Well here is blog #1 for this week I am choosing to reflect in both of my posts this week one is going to be a reflection of the class and everything I have learned from all of my classmates and the second will be from the blogging experience.
I have learned a lot from this class I do hope that some of you keep your blogs even thought we did not like them at first I would like to keep in contact with you. We have gotten to know each other through the group projects even though they were challenging at times, we had fun and learned a lot about workplace etiquette from Mrs. Dalley. I have learned that in groups we can all add a little bit of ourselves and make a wonderful product. When you just have one person creating something you have just one person's ideas, but when you put multiple heads together you get multiple ideas flowing and voila a masterpiece happens.
Then there was the annoying, yet informative sexual harassment presentations. They were fun and our group rocked it out!!! Yeah buddy! We looked so professional all five of us dressed to impressed the day of presentation, and we nailed our skit and we had all our facts down, so we had everything on point that day. Not to say the rest of the group didn't because you all did, but I was so proud of us. The rest of the groups looked good in your professional dress I do have to agree with Mrs, Dalley on that one with the fact that everyone looks so good on presentation day with the men in their ties and looking all spiffy, and the women looking so beautiful, and all the presentations were on point.

Week 7 Blog
The Scholarly Article I found was called: A speculative Perspective on the Transfer of Behavioral Science Findings to the Workplace: "The Times are A-Changin" by Gary P. Latham, 2007 Academy of Management Journal Vol. 5o, No. 5, 1027-1032
and the blog I found was: Work-focused psychotherapy can help employees return to work sooner Source: American Psychological Association, February 27, 2012
Summary of the Article is:
Times are changing in the workplace and there are potential solutions to certain problems that they offered which are as follows.
Lead with our strength
Develop a Theory of Diffusion
Include Operational Validity as a Criterion for Evaluating Human Resource Management Theory
Educate Managers and MBA Students by Involving Them in Our Research
Become Bilingual
Enter the World of Practitioners
Influence Practitioner Journals
Reward One's Influence on Practice
Conduct Research with Practitioners
Encourage Our Proteges to Seek Employment in the Private and Public Sectors
Summary of the blog is:
This blog talks about how cognitive behavior therapy could reduce the number of days employees miss due to mental disorders. The people who participated in the therapy group versus the people who did not increased the number of days they were in work rather than the days they were off due to their mental illness.
I believe the blog was more effective than the article was because it was simply more readable than the article was. The article was harder to understand than the blog so I think that the article was more focused on the more educated reader and the blog was focused on whoever came across it.

Week 6 Blog Post
The article title I found is "Blaming by Naming Battered Women and the Epidemic of Codependence" by Phyllis B. Frank, MA and Gail Kadison Golden, EdD, MSW. I retrieved this article from: http://www.goldenwrites.com/blaming.htm and the publication date is Accepted October 17, 1990 and Reprinted from Social Work Volume 37, Number 1 January 1992 Issue 1.
Having said all that the summary is as follows:
The article is talking about codependency in women of substance abusers/alcoholics. Saying that women who choose to stay and deal with the abuse and neglect of an unequal relationship are codependant because they need the dependency of the partner needing them. They also stated that this could be an affect of of these women growing up in an abusive/neglectful paerntal environment.
They did also say that we need to be careful labeling wome that are battered as codependent when we tell them it is not their fault that they are abused; we do not want them to feel that because they are codependant that it is their fault or maybe the ones who choose to leave are not the ones who should be labeled as the codependant women.
I believe the audience of this article could be anyone who comes across it, although I think it was intended for people in the human services field as an informative article back when they started doing these kinds of researches.
I figure this because of the words they used in this article as you would have to have some kind of educational background in this field to truly understand what they are talking about in this specific article.
The workplace relevance I feel is that I will be dealing with people from all types of backgrounds including alot of codependant people. So it is a good thing for me to be able to recognize this and help them thorugh their struggles.
I think the article is a little more specific to my field than any of the blogs that I have been finding, maybe because of the high confidentiality their is in my field or maybe because more people use Twitter now.
The credibility
The purpose
The audience
I think these are the three most important because formality doesn't really matter in blog format from what I have been seeing. People do not pay too much attention to their spelling or punctuation...which by the way is highly irritating! Credibility is high though because if they don't know what they are saying then that's just a load of crap! The audience is important also because if someone with a lower educational level reads a doctoral level blod they are not going to know what the heck they are reading. Last but not leas the purpose is important because that is making their whole point telling the reader the point of the blod without purpose they might just as well shut up!

My Response to the blog "Three Approaches to mHealth"
The blog titled "Three Approaches to mHealth" can be found at: http://www.hhs.gov/open/discussion/blog.html
Its specific purpose is: is to make the public aware of the three options available for mHealth programs using mobile phones and texting. It provides examples of each kind of program they are thinking of using or trying to start-up.
There are no entries on this blog other than the authors.
The audience of this blog is intended to be the general public and human service workers.
My critique of this bog is: The content is very professional and useful information, it is very well thought up and good be very helpful if ever put into action. I think that the author and the person creating the prototype are onto something with these ideas but it needs a little more planning. The quality of the layout is a little bland, but it has to be on a government forum, right?
A comparison of this blog and last weeks blog: this one is based more on my employment, but last weeks was more interesting to read, just because of the layout of the page. The layout of this page gave me a headache to look at, but they do have some good ideas on this page too.
My response to this blog is: I think that they have some good ideas, but need to keep working on the formula a little bit, because like the writer says it doesn't fit every one or every phone. For it to work the way they want it to it has to be a one size fits all kind of thing like a text message, but everyone has to want to use it, well at least the mass majority has to want to use it, because after all there still are those people that still do not text or use computers. So there still may be people who won't be up to speed on that trend either, but it could be a good thing if they can get it off the ground and running, like they did the text messages or facebook or twitter.
Ideas for blogging in my future career: I still am not convinced that blogging is the thing for me, not too may people read them more people read tweets. Besides that I still do not see how you can keep things confidential and blog or tweet, so I still am on the fence with blogging.

My Response to a Blog I Found on http://www.allthingsworplace.com
The post I am responding to was titled: "5 Meeting Traps and How to Fix Them" The author of this blog site is Steve Roesler.
1. The purpose of this blog is to inform the reader of five mistakes people make when planning meetings and how to fix the problems before making them.
2. The types of entries on this blog are people in positions of authority such as supervisors and leadership trainers and they agreed with his points and even added their own points.
3. The audience of this blog were the same as the respondents.
4. My response to this bog is that I believe that the author has some very credible points, they were very clearly stated, and well thought out.
A. People think their experts: Not everyone knows how to effectively run a meeting, when i all actuality all they do is throw a party.
B. People think their inspiring: Most people think that others want to listen when actually people would rather participate.
C. People Think others agree with them: Reality is most people just agree to appease the speaker and then after the meeting either forget the message or sabotage the idea
D. People think others are clairvoyant: Receiving a meeting invitation without an agenda and being expected to come to the meeting with a vision for what needs to be done
E. People think meetings are necessary: In fact they are downright expensive and should only be used if need be.
5. Ideas for my blog, or about blogging in my workplace/future career, or that relate to teh workplace in general inspired by my blog reading: Here is how I think I am going to respond to that, I do not think that blogging is for me, although it has been a fun experience learning how to do it and look some up. It takes up too much of my extra time that could be spent better used doing many other things. I also do not feel as though it would be very well used in my line of employment, human services. With the fact in mind that everything has to be so confidential in this field I do not think that this would be the best tool for someone in my line of work
